Election 2008 – Day 1
Elizabeth May Not
The big news today was that the leader of the Green Party will be excluded from the national debate again this time around. Three out of four leaders voted against her inclusion. In a news conferance she blamed it on discrimination (being the only woman being excluded by an all men panel, oh please) and called it undemocratic. If any group of people hold a vote and the majorioty wins, how is that undemocratic? That is the essence of democracy. The reason she’s excluded is twofold: she has no elected MPs, and she is colluding with the Liberal party in her Central Nova riding, where she made a deal with Dion not to run a Liberal candidate against her. Having her at the debate would have been like having two Libral speakers there.
Jacky, after years of trying to convince us that Harper is very American, transformed into one himself today, after he taking off his suit jacket and revealing a pre-rolled up long sleeve white shirt and putting the emphasis of his campaign on ‘change’. Does this remind you of any American you know? If only one of his parents could have been black, it would have been perfect!
Dion couldn’t find the keys to the Liberal jet, or something, so Dion had to take the bus. Nothing says ‘well oiled machine’ like riding the bus while your competitiors are flying around the country in their jets. Maybe it was for the better: flying around in the least fuel efficient jet of all party leaders while talking about carbon tax to curb fuel spending may have looked a bit hypocritical.
Gilles had a speach comparing Harper to Bush. Yawn. He also flew his jet low over the oil sands to show Canadians how bad the Albertans really are. Unfortunately, he neglected to mention that these oil sands are what keep this Country going. Without them, Quebec wouldn’t get any money. Without them, this country would have been bankrupt years ago.
Stephen, in the mean time, has been spotted here and there sporting his knitted sweater-vest. Very homey look, you’re going for there. That’ll bring around them women. Honestly, get rid of the vest, and start talking policy.
