Once again, if I were a Green candidate, I’d be pretty pissed off–at my leader
So, Elizabeth May *finally* got herself elected. It didn’t come easy, or cheap: first, she had to pick the most hippie-like riding in the country (I’ve been to the Gulf Islands) and then she had to spend the entire campaign in her own riding, and blow more than half of her entire national budget on buying herself some votes.
In the mean time, all her other 307 candidates were out there, unsupported, with no money to spend.
Then you go on TV stating there was a “growing green movement”, while in fact, your party’s support fell by 360,000 votes, or 39%. You were just talking about yourself, weren’t you?
Seriously, I don’t know why those 307 green candidates keep putting their names on the ballot.

Miss May is already asking for a “dispensation” to be treated as as a “party”. She wants time in Question period and an office staff allowance. Perhaps she shoud attach herself to the Liberals – she did have an arrangement with Dion. Cheers.

I think what will happen is eventually once the per vote subsidy is yanked she’ll throw herself into Jack’s arms for the environment critic job and some committee seat and the greens will be gone for good.

I think you may be right, James. She is an opportunist and seems to be only in it for herself.

I’d really be interested in seeing numbers for May’s election spending! With approx. 92,000 voters in her riding, she can’t legally spend more than around $76K on her personal election campaign. It will be interesting to see what gets passed off as part of the party’s national campaign.

The Green Party has always been about May getting a seat. I don’t think she cares about much else. Liz is getting old,and WAS probably worried about what the future held for her if she failed again.
Now,she only has to fool the voters one more time and she’s Set For Life, just like the lottery with the same name.
May knows how to play to the PPG and she’ll become their cause celebre. Look for Parliament to bend the rules for her,and if all else fails,I’m sure Layton will welcome her into the NDP.
With all their rookies, they could use an experienced activist in the House.

May and her party are already NDP lite, voters will take a look and realize they can get the real thing. Just ask Stephan Dion and Micheal Ignatieff…
