Bill Gates, certainly not the world’s dumbest person (one could call him a pretty bright computer “nerd”), has come up with an almost James Bond type diabolical “Let’s Change the Earth’s Climate” scheme. While ordinary citizens are no longer allowed to purchase plastic bags or drink a water bottle in fear that it may change the Earth’s climate, rich folk like Al Gore and Bill Gates are, apparently, allowed to mess with the Earth’s climate all they want. And to a degree that you or I could only dream of: create clouds, so more sunlight gets reflected off the Earth, so it heats up slower. Quite the plan, there.

Listen, I like the heat. Last winter, I barely picked up a snow shovel and I loved it. I don’t need Mr. Gates influencing the weather so I have to shovel, like, every day for six months straight. Come to think of it, I don’t need Mr. Gates influencing anything in my life. He may be a great anthropologist, but his software stinks and so do his licensing policies. And to go so far as to fund a cloud-creating contraption to stop global warming? I thought the man was smarter than that.

Bill needs his head examined. Or at least get it out of the clouds.

Front page news today in Holland’s arguably most left newspaper De Volkskrant: “Scientists shocked by attack from minister Cramer” after Holland’s environment minister Cramer said she would not accept “any more mistakes” in the IPCC Fouth Assessment Report.

After freaking out at the glacier mistake last week (”Politicians Furious After Yet Another Blunder in the IPCC Report“) , the minister could not accept the IPCC report made such a huge mistake by reporting that 55% of The Netherlands is below sea level, when in fact it is 26%. (The additional 29% is at risk of flooding from rivers). Of course, the leftist newspaper quotes a number of scientists that claim it is merely an honest mistake.

The newspaper adds:

Climate sceptics see this mistake (on one of the three thousand pages in the report) as proof that the IPCC is operating unscientifically.

Minister Cramer is calling for a thorough enquiry. Her fellow party MP Samdon is going further in calling for a resignation of IPCC boss Pachauri.

It is heartening to see that even leftist politicians in Europe are starting to question the IPCC report, even though we’ll have to wait longer for the media to follow suit.

FEB 5 UPDATE: The Dutch government has now officially asked the IPCC to explain their numbers.

After Climategate, Glaciergate, Amazongate, Pauchaurigate now comes Greenpeacegate. The Global Warming movement is unraveling faster than the North Pole is supposed to be melting. As Donna Laframboise, the creator of NOconsensus.org writes, it is hard to find out where greenpeace ends and the IPCC starts:the IPCC reports has a large number of “peer reviewed” references to  that seem to come from Greenpeace flyers and other un-reviewed Greenpeace literature.

Donna writes:

When discussing solar energy elsewhere, the report references two Greenpeace documents in one sentence. Here it uses a Greenpeace paper as its sole means of documenting where the “main wind-energy investments” are located globally (Wind).

She continues:

The expert reviewers who had input into just one portion (Working Group III) of the IPCC report are listed in this 8-page PDF. They include three Greenpeace employees, two Friends of the Earth representatives, two Climate Action Network reps, and a person each from activist organizations WWF International, Environmental Defense, and the David Suzuki Foundation.

And:

In short, Sawyer’s [seasoned campaigner on board Greenpeace boats and a tireless lobbyist] career has focused on political activism and environmental lobbying. How does that qualify him to be an IPCC “scientific expert reviewer”?

The IPCC Fourth Assessment Report has been proven to be the greatest work of fiction since the french included vows of fidelity in their marriage service [quote: Edmund Blackadder].

Mr. McGuinty announced his latest project today: 7 billion dollars goes to South Korea, for which a consortium led by Samsung will build and set up wind and solar farms across Ontario. The government has guaranteed them to pay above-market prices for green power. For all this, they’ll create 15,000 jobs.

So, to recap, we’re paying Samsung to build unproven wind and solar farms, and we’ll be buying over-priced power from them after. In addition, we paid nearly half a million dollars for each job created.

How does this help us?

I suppose the commercial is right: there is no place like McGuinty’s Ontario…

Once again, the IPCC was proven WRONG on a major issue regarding its claim that the probability of glaciers in the Himalayas “disappearing by the year 2035 and perhaps sooner is very high.” in the Fourth Assessment Report. In fact, the scientist that initially informed the IPCC of the glaciers disappearing, immediately retracted his statement after he issued it,  months before the Fourth Assessment Report came out back in 2007. They had ample time to take it out, but I suppose the exposed Himalayas was a great mental image, not to be wasted.

The Fourth Assessment Report said the evidence for global warming was now “unequivocal,” the chief source for it was man-made and there were already signs, of which glacial melt was one. It was this publication that kicked the world into action and implement carbon caps, carbon trading schemes, and greenhouse gas reductions in nearly every developed nation in the world.

The IPCC is only now launching a probe, three years after the fact, and quickly adds that “the evidence of the report remained incontrovertible. I am careful in saying this, because immediately people will again engage in IPCC bashing, which would be wrong.” (Georg Kaser of the Geography Institute at Austria’s University of Innsbruck). Three years later, the damage has been done. Billions upon billions of dollars have been wasted as a result of this fraudulent report.

Once again the media mainly ignores this fact, and even if the Ottawa Citizen reports on it, the article is strewn with “Attack by skeptics” and “hacked emails” and “IPCC bashing”. Even the headline does not reflect badly on the IPCC: UN climate body to probe Himalayan glacier forecast. I could have come up with a more accurate headline, say: IPCC admits Fourth Assessment Report based on false data–apologizes to world for wasting billions of dollars.

I am getting pretty tired of this Global Warming crowd: time after time they have been proven to fudge the numbers, lie, cheat, make up numbers, manipulate global temperature data and yet half the world still follows them blindly.

It’s time our own government puts a stop to this sham, and stop following anything the IPCC or UN does on the climate front.

This is getting rediculous.

I’m off of Google. Google is no longer a verb in my vocabulary.

When introduced years ago as an alternative to Yahoo!, it was good. It was much better than Yahoo! And for a while it was the de facto standard for searching the Internet. However, recent revelations have me believe that Google is seriously censoring and filtering the search results, and as a free-thinking, freedom of speech advocate, I can no longer support such an institution.

From Lawrence Solomon’s column Better off with Bing comes this:

Sometime around then, in early December, Google began to minimize the Climategate scandal by hiding Climategate pages from its users. By Dec. 17, the number of climategate pages that a Google search found dropped by almost 10 million, to 22.2 million. One day later Google dropped its find by another 8 million pages, to 14.1 million. By Dec. 23, Google could find only 7.5 million hits and on Dec. 24 just 6 million. And yesterday, when I checked, Google reported a mere 1.8 million climategate pages.

Bing, in contrast, didn’t make climategate pages disappear. As you’d expect from a search engine that wasn’t manipulating data, search results on Bing climbed steadily until they peaked at around 51 million, where they have remained since.

And he goes on to say:

But suddenly in late November, for reasons known only to Google, Google often would not suggest “climategate” to those who keyed in c-l-i. Even c-l-i-m-a or c-l-i-m-a-t-e-g-a-t weren’t enough to solicit a suggestion. Bing, in contrast, did not and does not steer users away from climategate — it has consistently suggested “climategate” to those who keyed in c-l-i or even c-l.

and:

Why would Google want to tamp down interest in climategate? Money and power could have something to do with it. Search for Google and its founders and you’ll see that they have made big financial bets on global warming through investments in renewable and other green technologies; that they have a close relationship with Al Gore, that Google CEO Eric Schmidt is close to Barack Obama.

So, as much as I don’t like Microsoft (as a user), I am banning Google, and switching to Bing for my main search engine. They are not filtering any search results, and are not pushing any political agenda.

Anyone who is against nanny-states and relishes in free-thinking should do the same, but of course, as a free-thinking, freedom of speech advocate I cannot tell you what to do… You’ll have to decide that for yourself.

Just do some research (not on Google, they even filter out “Googlegate”…)

We, Canada, received the “Fossil of the Year” award for our inaction against Climate Change. I couldn’t be happier with any other award.

I for one am very proud to have gotten this reward, and we should put it on display, very prominently, on Parliament Hill:

Ms. May, perhaps in search of a seat somewhere in Denmark where she may be elected (since she can’t get elected anywhere in this country), popped up, once again, on the radar at an ‘environmental’ conference at Hopenhagen, the world’s Schmooze-fest on Global Warming (even though there is no warming).

Unfortunately, I have already called her every name in the book in my many post before this one, so I have none to give you. I apologise.

Granted she hasn’t mentioned her book just jet, but has already told Canada to ’shut up’ and has been seen rubbing shoulders with such great human beings as Al Gore. Wonder if he showed her his Oscar… Oh Al, are you happy to see me, or is that a statue in your pocket? Al Gore and Elizabeth May, now there’s a couple I wouldn’t mind reading about in National Enquirer!

She says Canada is embarrassing itself every time we open our mouths, so we should shut up. I think she got her facts mixed up just slightly, there. All this globe-trotting to each and every conference flappin’ her gums off with crazy-talk may have gotten her off the track a little bit and she substituted ‘Canada’ for ‘Me’. That’s just what I think. I think she may have lost a few of her marbles (provided she had some to start off with) and is starting to excrete even more garbage than usual.

How did you get to Denmark, by the way, Ms. May? Did you swim? Row your boat?

As damaging the leaked CRU emails are to the Global Warmists, the real truth lies in the code. The computer program that “massages” the raw data into legible graphs and charts. That computer program isn’t written by scientists. It is not even written by anyone closely related to weather or climates: It is written by computer programmers (such as myself) FOR the climatologists. And as a computer programmer, I know that first and foremost the output of your program has to be what the client wants to see. They hired you: they have to be pleased.

I, and a large number of other people along with me, have examined the code leaked by the CRU hacks and I am astonished by the generous amounts of fudging, making up for missing data and adjustments that are mare to the raw input data to result in the now famous hockey stick graph, showing a sharp increase in global temperatures in the past century. I always knew that there were inconsistencies between temperature readings over the years, simply because the thermometers were moved, or temperatures were taken at different times of day. I can understand adjusting, slightly, temperatures to make up for physical differences between readings, but there are a large number of comments in the code, written in there by programmers FOR programmers, that show that programmers just made up “adjustment factors” and “fudge the numbers to hide decline” simply because they were given such inconclusive data, with large holes in it, that generating a graph from that data was simply impossible. And, I suspect, one of the  programmers’ parameters must have been to clearly show an increase in temperature over the past 100 years.

This brings us to this piece of code, taken from now famous leaked CRU files:

(Anything following a ‘;’ is a comment from the programmers. As seemingly damning as “Apply a VERY ARTIFICAL correction for decline!!” is, it is just a comment, nothing more).

This code takes years from 1904 to 1999 in 5-year intervals, and assigns a ‘fudge factor’ to them, ranging from -0.1 to 0 in the first half of the century, and a factor of 0 to +2.6 for the latter half. This ‘fudge factors’ will later be applied to the raw data from these years, clearly skewing the numbers to be showing an increase as time goes on.

To make it clearer, I have put the years and their corresponding ‘fudge factors’ in a table, and added a column for a “base temp”  and a “fudge factored temp” which takes the base temp and adds the fudge factor for the corresponding year:

In other words, if we take a steady temperature of 10 C from 1904 to 1999 and apply their ‘fudge factor’, all of a sudden the temperatures show a total increase of 2.6 degrees, rising sharply from 1964 onwards. If plotted on a graph, it would result in the famous hockey stick graph from Micheal Mann.

These ‘fudge factors’ are used by programmers all the time. Take a simple business model: products in a database. These products have a ‘cost price’ stored with them. Now, if the cost of manufacturing goes up by 10%, instead of going into the database and add 10% to every product’s ‘cost price’, it is much easier and more flexible to simply add10% to the price every time the “cost price” gets fetched from the database. That way, we can also vary the increase depending on how expensive the product is, or when or where it was purchased.

Of course, we can’t be sure that this particular piece of code was use to produce the figures that the IPCC used for their reports, however, if anything, it does show clear intent and willingness to fudge the numbers so that they would fall in line with their agenda: climbing temperatures world wide.

If we find out that this piece of code was used on any of the numbers given to the IPCC, clearly, the IPCC reports have to be dismissed as faulty data and all resulting decisions based on those faulty numbers will have to be revisited.

Just when cracks were starting to appear in the man-made global warming theory, John Gunter, general manager of tour group Frontiers North Adventures, came across a case of polar bear cannibalization on Nov 20 and hit the Warmist jackpot: a nice picture of a male polar bear killing and eating a polar bear cub, complete with shockingly blood-stained ice-floes, and giddily, like Europeans huddled around a bloodied Newfoundland seal pup, delivered the pictures to a welcoming media, eager to turn the spotlight away from Climategate, and gobbled it up like Coca Cola (pun intended), splashing the bloody pictures on the screen, complete with sad music, a sombre tone and disclaimer.

Global Warming caused the ice to melt, cutting off the Polar Bears’ food supply, and making them turn on eachother, this is the global concensus.

And accompanied by this cute little quote:

“If the Polar Bears don’t have enough food, they may starve”

(Guess what, Einstein, if I don’t eat enough food, I may starve too! What does that have to do with Global Warming?)

Never mind that Polar Bears, despite their cuddly appearance, are fierce carnivores, and both male and female Polar Bears have been known to eat their young, even in a zoo-setting with plenty of food, and have been doing that long before Global Warming allegedly melted their ice floes. There just weren’t bloody pictures of them doing it to splash onto the tv screen before. And there was no agenda before, either.

Never mind that, perhaps, the Polar Bear is short on food supply because there are now more Polar Bears than ever before in history, and maybe they are competing more for their food, simply because their vast numbers have outgrown the seal population.

Never mind that, as well, with the rising Polar Bears numbers, the number of instances of cannibalism will go up along with it.

But hey, the Warmists needed a boost, and there’s nothing that says “Global Warming will kill us” more than bloody Polar Bear pictures on the evening news.

FRIDAY UPDATE: As on cue, the Ottawa Citizen, as well as all the CanWest news papers, have this story.

Guinty & Smithy are just running wild now. One boondoggle after another. There seems to be no way to stop them.

The latest stupidity project is taking shape in Almonte. Mr. eHealth Scandal himself, George Smitherman, was on-hand to unveil the latest proof of incompetence: Two-hundred acres of prime, fertile farm land has been leased to a French company, that, for the lovely sum of $100,000,000 of Ontario taxpayer dollars, will erect a “solar wonder of the world” and, get this, will be paid $0.42 per kW/h to generate electricity. We currently pay, say, 0.06 per kW/h for coal/hydro/nuclear, so that will be an increase of seven hundred percent to the cost of electricity. AND we have to pay them to build it. On top of that, there will be an 8% increase once Dalton’s Rip-off Tax goes through next summer.

They say the project will start to generate electricity in December. Uhm.. after they hired some students to wipe the snow off of these miles and miles of solar panels. Yeah, solar energy is a real good idea: first off, you lose 2/3 of the day because there is no sun, and then you lose 1/3 of the year because there is snow sitting on these things.

And Dalton’s planning numerous projects like this one over the next three years.

Can we please get this guy out of office before he bankrupts all of us?

The federal government, in conjunction with the Alberta government, have invested $779M for an underground plant food storage unit. The unit will capture plant food (also known as CO2) from industries and store it underground in a holding facility (much like as in Ghostbusters), to be released into the atmosphere by some crazy scientist (again, much like as in Ghostbusters) sometime into the future, creating havoc for everybody on Earth. Or something.

At least it is some $220M less than Ontario’s recent M2W (Money To Waste, or, McGuinty To Waste) program.

Together, they could have bought 1800 MRI machines, or 100,000 nurses, saving MANY, MANY more lives than electronic health records or stopping Global Warming could ever hope to do.

After years of supporting campaigns to conserve water in the City of Ottawa, the city has now run into a problem: water consumption is down so much, that the city is looking at a $7M deficit in revenues, and in return will have to increase the rates on everything (including your water bill) to make up for it.

So, first they ask us to consume less, we do what they ask, and then as a thank you, they hit us over the head with an increase on the very bill they asked us to reduce.

I think the brains at city hall are made of 100% water, as opposed to the regular 70%.

And don’t get me started on exactly WHY we should be conserving water: it’s only the most abundant–and most recycled–substance on the face of the earth.

Ontario’s summer, so far, has been so cold and damp that it is now very hospitable to Heracleum mantegazzianum, also known as the Giant Hogweed, which is native to Russia, and thrived in the early 1970s in (also) damp and cold Britain. Ontario’s summer has been so cold and wet that it closely resembles Britain’s, and as such, the Giant Hogweed is quickly spreading.

The Giant Hogweed is a plant that can grow up to 7 meters tall, and it’s 3 cm thick stems have a clear liquid that, combined with sunlight, can make your skin boil. It was introduced to Britain by a victorian explorer, planted in the Royal Gardens at Kew, and quickly took over the countryside, prompting my favourite band Genesis to write a song about it:
