The boneheads in Newfoundland who voted for equalization handouts even though they are a “have province” now. They would rather risk a carbon tax on their precious oil than to finally take their place in confederation and pay towards this country.

The idiots in Quebec who vote for the Bloc and thus for separation. In particular the idiots in Gatineau who mostly work for the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT and would surely lose their jobs should their party of choice succeed in its goal and separate.

The idiots in downtown Toronto; How ANYBODY in Ontario can vote for Bob Rae, I will never understand. Another vote for hand-outs. Lovely.

59% turnout. It’s a shame.

And there you have it. Last night’s election results.

I read the most terrible news on the Liberal website this morning, it nearly made my heart stop:

The Conservative plan to use trucks to carry partisan billboards throughout the province of Quebec during this election campaign is a perfect example of the harmful effect the Harper government has had on Canada’s environment, Liberal Candidate for Vaudreuil-Soulanges Brigitte Legault said today.

Can you imagine that? They are using TRUCKS throughout the province of Quebec to carry partisan billboards around!

Not just regular billboards mind you, but PARTISAN billboards! Imagine that, TRUCKS to carry PARTISAN billboards!

Shame on them! I have to change my vote to Liberal now.

This reminds me of this famous exchange between Clinton and Chretien:

Reporter: What do you think of the drugs that come across the border?
Chretien: Yes, I t’ink dats a good t’ing. We need more of dat!
(confusion)
Clinton: No, he said “drugs”.
Chretien: Oh, I t’ought you said “trucks”!

Yes, Dion has ditched the widely unpopular and poorly understood Green Shaft plan, and is pitching a newly minted “team approach” on the campaign. Apparently, Ignatieff is doing the announcements now. At least we can understand what he is trying to say: over $80M for the auto industry. I don’t hear Jackie complaining about this ‘corporate bailout’… Oh, in the “Another Day, Another Billion” file: another $1B or so for farmers. Since we ran into one on the campaign trail.

Meanwhile, Harper’s making good headway in Quebec: Gilles had to admit that the Block was competing in most of its riding with the Conservatives. In other news, Gilles was making a pitch against privatized health care, even though his own province has the most private health care in the country.

Proving to be a stellar economist, Harper urged Canadians today to keep on spending to keep the economy going. There’s your fundamental difference between left and right: The right allows you to have more money to spend as you wish, while the left takes more of it and spends it for you.

She said nothing insulting. She said nothing out of line. There is a history there: six of the same group were hauled off on June 26 for disorderly conduct during a “sit in” at the constituency office. Then last week one of them showed up at the office looking intoxicated. She merely said, in order not to repeat past troubles, that if you want another meeting, conduct yourselves (reference to the “sit in”), and be sober (reference to last week’s incident). How is this insulting to all aboriginals across Canada?

From Lowell Green’s blog comes the real story:

At about 11:30 the morning of June 26 this year, a group of native Indians from the Barriere Lake Algonquin Youth Association and their supporters showed up at 127 Joseph Street in Buckingham, Quebec and began a sit in. It is the office of Transport Minister Lawrence Cannon. I won’t go into details about everything that happened here other than to say that finally Quebec Police were called and laid disorderly conduct charges against six of the protesters. According to witnesses, at least one of the protesters appeared to have been drinking.
Now fast forward to this past Wednesday.
A group of native Indians from the Barriere Lake Youth Association arrive in Maniwaki and demand to speak with Lawrence Cannon. He meets briefly with some of them.
After that meeting, Norman Matchewan, a Barriere Lake youth spokesman gets into a conversation with Darlene Lannigan, Mr. Cannon’s constituency assistant. From what we understand they wanted to arrange another meeting with the Transport Minister.
During that conversation, caught on videotape, Ms. Lannigan, who by the way is an experienced, seasoned political veteran, begins to lay out the rules for any future meeting. Keeping in mind what happened back in June, remember six disorderly conduct charges, Ms. Lannigan says, “If you behave and you’re sober and there’s no problems and if you don’t do a sit-down and whatever, I don’t care. One of them showed up the other day and was drinking.”
“Are you calling me an alcoholic?” asked Norman Matchewan, a Barriere Lake Algonquin youth spokesman.
“I’m not calling you an alcoholic, no,” Lannigan said. “It was just to say that you’re in a federal office. If you’re coming in to negotiate, I expect, there’s decorum that has to be respected.”

What is sad is that the media, in an effort to come up with another ‘gaffe’, just reports on what she said, but completely neglected to show the history between these two groups.

The biggest mistake in all of this is the apology by Canon. By apologizing you’re admitting you did something wrong. There was no need to apologize. There was nothing to apologize for.

The big news today was that the leader of the Green Party will be excluded from the national debate again this time around. Three out of four leaders voted against her inclusion. In a news conferance she blamed it on discrimination (being the only woman being excluded by an all men panel, oh please) and called it undemocratic. If any group of people hold a vote and the majorioty wins, how is that undemocratic? That is the essence of democracy. The reason she’s excluded is twofold: she has no elected MPs, and she is colluding with the Liberal party in her Central Nova riding, where she made a deal with Dion not to run a Liberal candidate against her. Having her at the debate would have been like having two Libral speakers there.

Jacky, after years of trying to convince us that Harper is very American, transformed into one himself today, after he taking off his suit jacket and revealing a pre-rolled up long sleeve white shirt and putting the emphasis of his campaign on ‘change’. Does this remind you of any American you know? If only one of his parents could have been black, it would have been perfect!

Dion couldn’t find the keys to the Liberal jet, or something, so Dion had to take the bus. Nothing says ‘well oiled machine’ like riding the bus while your competitiors are flying around the country in their jets. Maybe it was for the better: flying around in the least fuel efficient jet of all party leaders while talking about carbon tax to curb fuel spending may have looked a bit hypocritical.

Gilles had a speach comparing Harper to Bush. Yawn. He also flew his jet low over the oil sands to show Canadians how bad the Albertans really are. Unfortunately, he neglected to mention that these oil sands are what keep this Country going. Without them, Quebec wouldn’t get any money. Without them, this country would have been bankrupt years ago.

Stephen, in the mean time, has been spotted here and there sporting his knitted sweater-vest. Very homey look, you’re going for there. That’ll bring around them women. Honestly, get rid of the vest, and start talking policy.
